7 Minutes in Heaven Scottsdale is an installation meant to evoke the same mystery as a stand alone installation as when I am present as an active participant. The space represents the mystery between reality, fantasy and expectation.

I want You: Portraits of My Mother includes video performance "Estampitas" and SM (soft masochism) textile sculpture
I Want You: Portraits of My Mother is a video installation created in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I made a web out of rope to perform under. The web represents the traditional maternal energy of the spider. As I worked on the web, I choreographed a dance to be performed behind glass for a larger audience as well as an intimate direct performance for one person at a time. The dance was based on constriction and slightly based on the principles of S&M. I feel a lot of mothers have a unique "soft masochism".
Buenos Aires has a large Catholic population that is connected to "The Ultimate Mother/Virgin Mary" through these unique and decorative "estampitas." Estampitas are little cards with a picture of the virgin and a corresponding prayer on the back. They pray directly to the virgin mother with these cards to create a deep personal connection. I made my own estampitas for my performance to inspire the same intimate connection with the audience.

Dolly and Me
America loves to play The Who is really American game. The flag is regularly co opted by alleged “patriots” who are just racist and xenophobic. “Dolly and Me” is grounded in complex identity. I am a black female who lived on a reservation as a young child. Music was always playing in my household. In early life it was Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard and Conway Twitty. The first flag I remember was the flag on the hat of my grandfather’s WWII veterans hat. I knew we were American why did I have to prove it. In this performance I am playing with the performative aspects of race and nationality.

Lumicrew, March 2013
Lumi Crew was founded at Arteles residency in Haukijärvi, Finland, a remote community with minimal social interaction. Based on the premise of performance & dance, Lumi Crew wanted to bring art to the community in a fun, accessible way. The inaugural performance took place at a popular supermarket that linked two country villages together. People who otherwise might not see art and/or the members of their community regularly, could interact and enjoy performance art while they shopped and carried out regular tasks for the day. The aim of the project is to explore personal identities within the context of dance and to bring performance art to remote communities that might in turn, bolster social networks. We are addressing social needs through the umbrella of fine art, using it as a tool to speak to people in unique ways. Each piece is choreographed with the specific communities in mind.
